Milee

A free mobile learning application for Media and Information Literacy, available in local languages across Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

Overview

Milee is a free online learning app designed to make quality education simple, practical, and accessible for everyone. Built around DW Akademie's internationally recognised Media and Information Literacy (MIL) curriculum, the app helps users develop essential skills for navigating today's digital world.

Beyond individual learning, Milee serves as a knowledge-sharing platform for organisations. CSOs, NGOs, and educators can upload their own educational content through a dedicated content hub, distribute lessons to learners, and monitor engagement, making education more inclusive, scalable, and community-driven.

Funded by DW Akademie, Milee is currently available in Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan in local languages, with plans to expand to additional markets and broaden its learning opportunities. Through engaging video lessons, interactive quizzes, and visual learning content, users can learn anytime and anywhere.

What we set out to do

  • Make Media and Information Literacy (MIL) learning accessible to everyone by providing a free platform that removes barriers.
  • Deliver educational content in local languages so learners can develop critical thinking and digital literacy skills in a familiar and culturally relevant context.
  • Create a platform that can support additional educational content, organisations, and new markets.

What we did

  • Developed Milee, a free learning app that delivers DW Akademie's Media and Information Literacy curriculum through interactive, self-paced learning.
  • Localised content for three countries, ensuring content is available in each country's local language.
  • Implemented learner progress tracking, allowing users to continue learning at their own pace while monitoring their achievements.

Outcomes

  • MIL education made freely available to learners across three countries.
  • Online application that enables learning without the need for a physical classroom.
  • A scalable digital learning ecosystem capable of supporting additional courses, partners, languages, and countries.
